WHY COMPOSITE
Why not use iron oxide on its own?
Iron oxide is a proven cosmetic colorant with excellent tinting strength and safety. Used alone, however, it creates problems inside the formulation. HANSAN's color powders solve those problems at the raw material stage by compositing the pigment with spherical silica.

Four advantages of silica-composite color
1. Ball Bearing Effect — Silky Application
Spherical silica particles roll across the skin like tiny ball bearings, reducing friction between the powder and the skin surface. The pigment glides instead of dragging, so the shade spreads evenly with minimal pressure and a distinctly silky feel.
2. Anti-Agglomeration & Uniform Color
Fine iron oxide particles tend to clump together, making them difficult to disperse. Silica sits between the pigment particles as a spacer, preventing agglomeration and delivering clean, uniform color without streaking or speckling. Dispersion time in production is reduced as a result.
3. Oil Control & Darkening Resistance
Porous silica absorbs sebum and sweat, preventing the pigment from becoming saturated and shifting darker over the course of the day. The shade applied in the morning is the shade still visible in the afternoon.
4. Surface Treatment for Long Wear
Alkylsilane (AS) or Dimethicone (DS) surface treatment makes the powder hydrophobic. It repels water and sweat so makeup doesn't break down, and improves adhesion to the skin — essential for long-lasting and waterproof formulations.
